A poet-artist, who was born in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), lived in France for nine years, resided in New York from late 1972 to 2005, and now lives in La Mancha. He used to be a professor at the Yale University and at the New York University. Since 1987, he has been presenting actions, performances and installations with his texts.

He used to be a professor at the Yale University and at the New York University. Since 1987, he has been presenting actions, performances and installations with his texts. He has collaborated with artists like Txuspo Poyo, Iván Pérez, Carlos Pazos and Juan Ugalde, and with Montserrat Soto on the video installation called “Lugar de Silencios” (A quiet place), Barcelona, ​​2007. He has also been collaborating with the artist Francis Naranjo and the composer José Manuel López López on several videos, compositions and installations for a decade. His three main solo projects are: “El Gran Poema de Nadie” (The Great Poem of Nobody), 2002-2017; “Acción rural” (Rural Action), 2015-2017; and “Acción refugiados” (Refugee Action), 2016-2017.

His poetry books: El fin de las razas felices (The end of the happy races), 1981; El gran criminal (The great criminal), 1997; Corazón de perro (Heart of a dog), 2002; Videopoemas (Videopoems), 2002-2006 (book-DVD, 2007); Y empezó a no hablar (And he stopped talking), 2008; Lugar (Place), 2010; translated into Arabic: El Cairo, 2014); Los libros suicidas – Horizonte árabe (The suicide books), 2015; and La noche de Europa (The European night), 2017. He has also published several essay books: Poesía y percepción (Poetry and perception), 1984; El poeta y la ciudad (The poet and the city), 1994; Memorias de un mirón: voyeurismo y sociedad (Memoirs of a voyeur: voyeurism and society), 2002; and, in collaboration with Carlos González Tardón, ¿Puede un computador escribir un poema de amor? – Tecnorromanticismo y poesía electrónica (Can a computer write a love poem? – Technoromanticism and digital poetry), 2010 (translated into Arabic, El Cairo, 2014). In association with the group of artists, ESTRUJENBANK, he published a collection of texts in 1992 called Los tigres se perfuman con dinamita (The tigers are perfumed with dynamite), 1992, (2nd Ed. 2003) and Tot Estrujenbank, 2008.

The intervention of Dionisio Cañas, performed on May 31 for Cáceres Abierto 2017, involved a preparatory workshopfor the ManifestACCIÓN Lujo para todos(Luxury for all DemonstrACTION) project with the students of Bachillerato (Spanish Baccalaureate) of I.E.S Al-Qázeres School and of Eulogio Blasco School of Fine Arts. During the workshop, after a brief introduction to performance art, some flags, posters and a banner were created for the ManifestACCIÓN, in which the participants marched the next day, June 1 at 19:00, from the A. Rodríguez-Moñino/M. Brey Public Library of Cáceres, passing through the Paseo de Cánovas, to arrive at the square known as La Cruz and, finally, placed all the created material at the El Brocense Art Gallery where they remained on display until June 25, along with an illuminated sign with the motto Lujo para todos.
