These four artists, who live and work in Extremadura, conceived the idea of the project, Sinergias (Synergies), on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vostell Malpartida Museum, which has now become a reality, as part of Cáceres Abierto.
Our relationship with places and spaces has changed and is representative of the reality of contemporary society and culture. We have become accustomed to moving from one place to another, without stopping to observe our surroundings, let alone interact with each other. We pass through the places, which almost act as huge corridors that convert citizens into masses, distancing ourselves from individuality to become elements in motion that, like flocks of birds, merge and disperse spontaneously.
The idea of the project was inspired by the philosophy behind the foundation of Vostell Malpartida Museum, in which the possibility of an art linked to life can be discerned, without segmentation, where there is room for all kinds of expressions and ideas. This group of artists wants to highlight that same romantic and revolutionary spirit, trying to combine art with new technologies of our time, thereby combining art with life, by stimulating the senses and the instinct of the spectator-cum-participant, and bringing him/her closer to art as well as the museum from a contemporary perspective. The performance/installation connects the life of the people of Malpartida to the museum and vice versa, involving the daily life and the movement of the passersby, capturing the noises, the atmosphere and the natural environment.
The spectator becomes the protagonist and collaborator of the art piece by leaving a record of his/her passage and interacting within the space. His/her anonymous presence will be absorbed by the art piece, which will incorporate it into other traces to show to the future visitors.
Sinergias opens at 12:30 on June 4, 2017 at the Vostell Malpartida Museum and will remain there until June 25.
Vostell Malpartida Museum opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 9:30–13:30 and 17:00–20:00. Sunday 9:30–14:30.
