Fermín Jiménez Landa

He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Valencia and attended workshops with Robert Morris, Rogelio López Cuenca, Francesc Torres, Jon Mikel Euba and Douglas Ashford, as well as the classes at the ASFA in Athens.


He uses diverse languages –drawing, photography, installation and video– to explore everyday circumstances drawn from the daily routines of public and social spaces, basically the street and the Internet. He creates works of euphoric illusionism, devoid of any power, with productive use of the absurd, the enthusiastic precariousness and surpassing the norm, that are defined by a non-believing and humorous conceptualism and that focus on the micro-political impact of art. His work consciously forces the ridiculous element within the parodic and antiheroic mission of producing temporary cracks in our rhythm of life and thus altering what we thought was safe.


He has exhibited at the Manifesta 11 biennial in Zurich, at the MAZ museums in Zapopan/Mexico, Artium in Vitoria, MUSAC in León and CA2M in Madrid, at La casa Encendida and at Travesía Cuatro, Nogueras Blanchard and Bacelos art galleries. He has worked with Consonni, 1646 in The Hague and HIAP in Helsinki.

His project in Cáceres Abierto 2019

A sculpture and a situation created from inside by a team of volunteers and the artist. Upon completing this construction in the heart of Parque del Príncipe, the participants were trapped inside and managed to evacuate the sculpture somehow. The outcome is a simple compact structure, but small details leave proof of this performative act, such as the earth removed from what looks like a tunnel, the remains of the inside of the sculpture that we see through the bricks, a tent, some shovels and eating utensils. The poetic element of the work exists in the space between what we see and what truly happened.
