27 Aug MAIDER LÓPEZ VISITS GRANITE QUARRIES TO PREPARE FOR HER INTERVENTION IN CÁCERES ABIERTO 2019
On 19 March, the Donostia-born artist Maider Lópezvisited some granite quarries in the province of Cáceres, accompanied by the project management team of Cáceres Abierto.
The objective was to make progress in the preparation of her intervention for Cáceres Abierto 2019, in which Maider poses a reflection on the city of Cáceres and its history, on how we get around and connect with it. An installation that calls attention to the coexistence between the new and the pre-existing elements. The material used is granite stones with which the city is built, and which relates and contrasts the original material and its transformation with the natural and urban environment.
Maider López’s work involves intervening in public spaces and architecture. Her interventions often require audience participation and reveal imposed rules of behaviour. She breaks free from the statism of things and places, opening the possibilities for negotiation and finding new ways to perceive and interact.
