THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF CÁCERES ABIERTO 2019

THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF CÁCERES ABIERTO 2019

From 25 April to 16 June, about thirty art projects of Cáceres Abierto, a biannual programme of contemporary art and culture curated by Jorge Díez and Julio C. Vázquez, activated the city’s public spaces, converting the event into a point of public interaction and participation to reflect critically while being respectful of the environment and the community.

The closing activities took place between 14 and 16 June, beginning with the Session on Artistic processes and good practices in a rural environment on Friday afternoon at the Cáceres Museum. The first round-table was dedicated to the Narbón ha vuelto (Narbón is back) movement with the participation of María del Mar Lozano Bartolozzi, Andrés Talavero, Jesús González and Felicidad Rodríguez, and was followed by a panel discussion on good practices and the rural public spaces, based on the experiences of Ramon Parramon and Miguel Ángel Moreno. To conclude, Rafael Morales, president of Cultural Managers of Andalusia (GECA), and Beatriz Castela, vice president of the Association of Visual Artists and Associates of Extremadura (AVAEX), presented two documents on good practices: Libro Blanco de las Buenas Prácticas de la Gestión Cultural en España (White Paper of the Good Practices of Cultural Management in Spain) and Guía de Buenas Prácticas Artísticas en el Medio Rural (Guide to Good Artistic Practices in the Rural Environment).

On Saturday, 15 June, the presentation of the documentary “No escribiré arte con mayúscula” (I will not write art in capital letters) about the Velázquez Prize-winner Isidoro Valcárcel Medina at the Vostell Malpartida Museum was the main closing activity. The artist himself was present during the screening, along with the directors Miguel Álvarez-Fernández and Luis Deltell, which was followed by a panel discussion about the contents of the film with Jorge Díez and the rest of the audience. The Metropolis programme of La 2 channel of RTVE has been taking interviews and recordings for a monograph on Cáceres Abierto which will be broadcast after the summer and, during the next few days, our website will keep incorporating several videos and files on artistic interventions, exhibitions, workshops and panel discussions that have been integrated into this second edition.

All this will be consolidated in the catalogue that we will soon begin to prepare and that will hopefully be a nexus with the third edition of Cáceres Abierto in 2021.

Many thanks to all the artists, the local institutions of Extremadura, the numerous collaborating associations and organisations, the citizens of Cáceres and all the visitors and friends who participated in one way or another during these one and a half months of Cáceres Abierto.
